Peacefully, surrounded by family. Much loved Mom to Cathie, Marilyn (Brian), Rob (Lynn), Sandy (Dave) the late Joe, Tina and Tom (Kelly). Cherished Grandma to Alycia, Michael, Catharine, Andrew, Ian, Alex, Maddy, Sara, Danielle, Jacob, Thomas, Kaitlyn, Krista and Robert. Missed by her siblings Bob Caco (Mary), Patricia Caco, Chris Caco (Joanna) and Larry Caco (Virginia), sisters-in-law Pat and Loretta, her aunt Marian Butters and many nieces and nephews.
Waiting for her in Heaven is her true love and husband for 54 years, Bob, along with son Joe, parents Andrew and Madeline Caco, parents-in-law Ernie and Evelyn Coleman, twin brother Joe, brother Don and brother-in-law Gerald Coleman and his wife Diane.
Mom grew up on Wentworth Street North in Hamilton and attended St. Emeric’s and Cathedral Girls High School, where she was always top of her class. She earned a degree in Household Economic Sciences at the University of Toronto. Following a year’s internship, she became a registered dietitian and eventually Head of Dietetics at the Hamilton General Hospital. Later, she was the dietitian at St. Elizabeth’s Villa for several years.
Mom and Dad married just after she finished university. They had 7 children and together managed a house full of active kids, dogs, cats, birds, fish, rabbits and hamsters. Before buying a pool, Mom got her lifeguarding certificate. And when Dad bought a plane, she got her private pilot’s licence, too.
Mom loved music and she put her talents to use leading the choir and playing organ at Corpus Christi Church for many years. She was a convener with the Hamilton Ringette Association, co-president (with Dad) of the Steel City Squares, taught guitar and played ukulele with the Seniors Fun Band. She was also a regular canvasser for several medical charities.
Mom was a kind-hearted person who reached out to those in need. She planted trees and did many things to protect the environment long before it was popular to do so. She was an intelligent, fun and positive person, and we will miss her terribly.
Our thanks to everyone at Idlewyld Manor who took such good care of Mom in her final years.
