With broken hearts, we say goodbye to our beloved “Teddy”. Adored husband of Mary for 64 wonderful years, cherished father to Nancy (Mark), Kathy (Danny), Mark ( Cathie) and unwavering hero to grandchildren, Christopher, Jerod, Ryan (Lauren), Tessa, Patrick (Taylor), Nathan, Justin, Abbi, Braeden and Kyle.
Teddy’s life journey began on June 15, 1934 and he lived a full life for 89 incredible years until his passing on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. He died peacefully knowing that he was loved with a love beyond measure. Teddy is predeceased by his sisters, Helen Startek, Nellie Yarmol, Stella Spanik, Jeanne Duda and Gladys Yarmol.
Teddy’s pride and joy were his grandchildren. Grandpa/Papa was their biggest fan, faithfully attending their sports events, recitals and various school functions. Grandpa/Papa was their stoic role model always leading by example, and showing them how to live a life filled with integrity, honesty, and bravery in the face of adversity. Grandpa/Papa’s motto for his grandchildren was always. “You are perfect, never change.”
Teddy loved country music, a good glass of wine, sweets and playing the accordion. Dad was always there and ready to paint or wallpaper a house or just being a sidekick to Frank Frank. Teddy was a member of the Hamilton Police Chief’s Retirees Advisory Committee, a member of The International Police Association and proudly volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society, b.r.a.i.nchild and various events within the police association.
Teddy proudly served on The Hamilton Wentworth Regional Police Department for 35 years. He was one of Hamilton’s finest but will endearingly be remembered by his family as our very own “Defective”.
Teddy’s family would like to thank the incredible staff at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Complex Care, for their tireless support and care of Teddy throughout his three months stay at the hospital. A very special thank you to Dr. Alton for his compassion and professionalism. He consistently treated dad with the utmost respect and care, for this we are very grateful.
The family invites you to a celebration of Teddy’s life at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 1010 Botanical Dr. Burlington, Ontario, on Monday, March 27, 2023, from 3 to 5 p.m., and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held in the chapel at Bay Gardens Burlington at 12:30 on Tuesday, March 28 followed by entombment at the Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum in Burlington, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to, The Canadian Cancer Society, Sick Kids Toronto and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Complex Care Unit.
