On February 14, 2022, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Most beloved father and friend to son Scott (Simone), and daughter Sandra (Bob Abell). Cherished by and superfan of his five grandchildren Will (Jennie), Allison (Alan), Alex (Alaysha), Amanda and Lucas. Bill was thrilled to meet and bounce his great-grandson, Kylo, on his knee this past January. He was a devoted and beloved companion to Elizabeth Fry and will also be mourned by her children David Fry (Andrea) and Nancy Morin (Stephen) and their families. Bill is predeceased by wife, Pauline (2014) and his parents, Gordon and Evelyn Paynter of London, Ontario. He will be deeply missed by his extended family and large circle of friends particularly the Barr, Ferris, and Smith families. Bill grew up in South London, Ontario and was one of the first to graduate from the London Police Cadet program in 1958. He was also active with the Boy Scouts, and the London Police Boys Band where he played the French horn. He met and married his first love, Pauline Scott, and started his family. Bill moved to the Hamilton-Wentworth Regional Police Force, retiring in 1997 with the rank of Sergeant. His career took him to many areas of policing including the traffic/motorcycle unit, youth division, and as a detective. He loved being able to help people. Bill was very active with Burlington Minor Hockey, filling various leadership roles with teams from the Bantam through Juvenile age groups. He was also very active with the Burlington Top Hat Marching Orchestra for over 25 years, marching and playing alongside his long time friend, Bill Ferris. The music in his heart always shone through. The family wishes to thank the wonderful doctors and nursing staff at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital for their gentle and compassionate care of Bill while he was ill. Cremation has taken place.
